Sky Blues in the Community have partnered with ‘Run Like a Girl’ to provide beginners running courses in Coventry for local women as part of the ‘In It Together’ project.

Run Like a Girl (RLAG) was set up in 2015, to give women the opportunity to get active through running, in a safe and supportive environment – an ethos that aligns perfectly with the In It Together (IIT) project. Funded by Sport England, IIT is focused on getting women and teenage girls in Coventry active through a variety of sporting activities.

A typical course costs just £12 for 8 weeks and sees women take part in a structured programme at the War Memorial Park, following the ‘Couch to 5K’ programme. So far, hundreds of women have benefited from attending the course – inspiring many to run on a regular basis.

Hardeep, one of the course ‘graduates’ in 2017 said: “I cannot believe I have come from struggling to breathe in the first couple of weeks of the course to being able to run for 25minutes! The course is brilliant and caters for all types of people, I am always talking about it and am proud to a be a part of it. The run leaders and volunteers are amazing and made myself and all of the other ladies comfortable and confident about their running abilities. I would never have got this far without this group and it has been a very important help to me to start running.”

Moving forwards, Sky Blues in the Community (with the support of Run Like a Girl) are looking to set up more and more running groups in Coventry. To find out more about the courses on offer, please contact Kimberley Dougherty via telephone: 024 7678 6314 or email: kim.dougherty@ccfc.co.uk
