Teacher Training

As well as offering PE, PPA, lunch time and after school programmes in a range of sports (not just football), we also recognise the value of providing support and personal development opportunities for primary school teachers and support staff.

There are a number of accredited and non-accredited courses that we can offer schools to help up-skill your staff to support or take on the delivery of physical education and physical activity within your school. Our accredited courses are nationally recognised courses delivered by qualified tutors, with each candidate completing the course receiving official certification. Our continuous professional development offer includes:

Day certificate in Sports Leadership

Accredited by Sports Leaders UK, this course is designed to support adults (including teachers) by providing an overview of the skills, attributes and qualities required by a sports leader. The course is not sport-specific and will provide ideas on adapting simple activities into games that promote physical literacy. The day certificate in sports leadership will provide you with the basics to feel more confident in delivering multi-skill activity to your pupils. Duration: 7 hours

Level One Award in Sports Leadership

This Level One Award is the next stage up from the Day Certificate. Again accredited by Sports Leaders UK, this course contains 33 guided learning hours. The syllabus is designed to develop generic leadership skills that can be applied in a variety of sports and/ or recreational situations. There are plenty of practical opportunities to plan, lead and review sport and multi-skill sessions and develop your skills under the guidance of our experienced tutor. Duration: 33 hours

FA Level One Football Coaching

This 30 hour course is specific to football and those completing it will come away with an internationally recognised FA coaching qualification. This course provides an introduction to the organisation and delivery of safe and enjoyable coaching sessions for players. The course will introduce practical drills to develop players’ technical skills such as shooting, turning with the ball and heading. It is ideally suited to those working with groups of young players. This certificate offers an opportunity for aspiring football coaches to be supported in developing their knowledge of how to effectively coach a local club or school team. Duration: 30 hours

Support and Mentoring

All of our staff are qualified coaches, hold a DBS check, first aid and welfare certificates. Our staff are very experienced in coaching and delivering activities for children of all ages in a range of sports and multi-skill disciplines. As part of our offer to ‘Partner Schools’ we offer CPD training days every school year. This allows nominated staff from our Partner Schools to attend training sessions to further their skills and experiences. Staff and teachers are also encouraged to observe and join in with PPA or PE lessons that we deliver in their schools – allowing them to learn how to structure PE sessions and pick up ideas for games and activities. If you would like to find out more about becoming a Sky Blues in the Community Partner School, you can contact our office on 024 7678 6371. Duration: Ongoing
