PL Primary Stars

The newly-launched Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) project has been developed by the Premier League using the Primary School National Curriculum to provide support to every Primary School in England and Wales. This exciting new programme uses the power of sport to engage and inspire pupils in the areas of PE, PSHE, Enterprise as well as the core subjects of Numeracy and Literacy at a key stage of their lives.

Premier League Primary Stars will aim to develop children’s skills and ambition both on and off the sports field with resources for girls and boys aged 5-11 years old.  Building on the great work already delivered by the Trust, the Premier League has been working with experts in different fields to design resources to get children in Key Stages 1 and 2 learning and active.

The Sky Blues in the Community team have begun to deliver PLPS curriculum sessions, after school clubs, assemblies and mass participation days for school across Coventry and Warwickshire, with the number of schools benefitting from PLPS set to increase year on year.

In addition to expert coaching and teaching from Sky Blues in the Community staff, there is a strong emphasis on working with current PE teachers to develop and improve their skills, confidence and subject knowledge to enable them to deliver more engaging and higher-quality PE lessons.

Through Premier League Primary Stars, the Premier League and professional football clubs aim to:

“Use the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to connect with young people and create healthier and more positive futures for all children in England and Wales. The programme will focus on developing the whole child – improving their physical literacy, enhancing their learning, and teaching them relevant life skills and behaviours”

•increasing children’s enjoyment, participation and skills in sport and other physical activity

•helping children develop the personal skills and values they need to achieve their goals
