Henley College BTEC Football Academy
September 2013 saw the launch of a partnership between Sky Blues in the Community and Henley College in offering BTEC qualifications in Sport and Active Recreation, at the same time providing the opportunity for young people aged 16-19 represent Coventry City FC against other professional club education programmes.
Now in it’s third year, the course sees up to 30 students study full-time for two years to gain a BTEC qualification (Levels 1 to 3) in Sport and Active Recreation.
Alongside the BTEC qualification, students obtain a Sports Coach UK Sports Leaders award and an FA Level One coaching badge. Students are also given the opportunity to gain practical voluntary – and potentially paid employment – with Sky Blues in the Community, coaching at schools and on holiday activities across Coventry and Warwickshire.
The course provides an opportunity to benefit from daily football coaching with up to 12 hours of training and games taking place each week with Sky Blues in the Community coaches.
The football academy represent the sky Blues in the Under 19 National Youth Development League, featuring 21 other professional club college programmes including Birmingham City, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Liverpool, Plymouth Argyle, Cheltenham Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Burton Albion and Blackpool.
Sky Blues in the Community and Henley College will be hold an open trial event for interested players during February each year, with further trials later in the year. Applications for places on the programme in September are taken throughout the year through Henley College with the course starting in September.
