FOOTBALL-INC-5

Sky Blues in the Community is committed to providing opportunities to children and adults with a disability to play football within Coventry and Warwickshire. We have been successfully providing disability football coaching since 2008, and we are now one of the leading disability sport providers in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Since 2008 our disability offer has increased dramatically and we now deliver sessions for specific disabilities, holiday courses, adults activities and regularly take part in regional and national festivals and competitions, offering our participants the chance to represent Coventry City Football Club.

Sky Blues in the Community work with a number of partners to create opportunities for children and adults with a disability to play football, as well as other sports. We also work with other partners to support those with a disability in improving and increasing their independence and life skills.

In 2016 Sky Blues in the Community were awarded a grant of £54,200 over three years to deliver their own ‘Football Inc. project. The project is funded by the Wembley National Stadium Trust and administered by the English Football League Trust – working together in an innovative partnership between the charitable side of the country’s most iconic sporting venue and the organisation responsible for overseeing the charitable work at Football League Clubs up and down the country.

The grant will allow us to deliver our own unique programme of activity, bringing all of our disability sessions under one project. Football inc. will deliver a variety of sessions within schools, festivals, sessions in partnership with local community groups and impairment-specific sessions, creating opportunities for children and adults to represent Coventry City in newly-formed teams.

The overriding aim of the Football Inc. project is to get more disabled people playing football by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from doing so.  Since the London 2012 Paralympics, there has been a major increase in the number of people with a disability playing sport, or wanting to do so.
