THE Sky Blues enjoyed a double celebration at the weekend after two of the club's Ability Counts sides walked away with cup silverware.
Sky Blues in the Community's (SBITC) Ability Counts Under 16s and Under 12s, which involves players with learning and physical disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy and Downs Syndrome, won their respective League Cup campaigns with wins over their Aston Villa counterparts in Birmingham on Sunday.
The Sky Blues Under 12s, coached by Mark Jones, picked up the trophy after a romping 5-0 win over Villa courtesy of strikes from Kieran McFadden, Warren Daniel, Ryan Jones, Niall Malloy and Jordan Pearson.
The Under 16s though completed a league and cup double, winning their League Cup final over Villa 3-1, with a brace from Johnny Shaw and one from Josh Smeaton, just days after securing the Ability Counts league title to the delight of coach Eddie Hambury.
Paul Reynolds, Disability Development Officer at Coventry City, said: "The achievements of these two age groups have been nothing short of fantastic.
"For two of our teams to each win their own respective cups is brilliant and the fact that the Under 16s can now add this to a league title makes it even sweeter.
"We are all extremely proud of what the lads and coaches have achieved. It's thoroughly well deserved." |
